THE PHOTOGRAPHER AND HER CATS

Nukhet Barlas is a free-lance senior environmental consultant. After 14 years of graduate study and work in Atlanta and Cincinnati, now lives in Istanbul with her husband, son, and cat.

Her articles concerning environmental issues are published in Turkish newspapers, and e-zines in English. Her story book for older children, "Earth Stories" is published by lulu.com. Her short story "Abyssinian" is to appear in Bewildering Stories e-magazine soon in 2009.

She is also a hobby photographer. She has published calenders.

CAT MEMBERS OF MY FAMILY

This cream tabby is Sedef. Unfortunately, she died of cancer in November 2009 before her 5th birthday. She was a Turkish Angora mix. She was moody, typical of Angora's. I tamed her from almost a wild cat. But she was extremely playful and intelligent.

The black one is Kara; he died in 2005 at age 19. He was an American short-hair. He was very gentle and smart. He was brave enough to chase dogs.

Tombik in the black & white photo was the family cat when the author was a teenager. She also was a Turkish Angora. Died at age 16.

Minik was the family cat when the author was in elementary school. He was a mix long hair tabby. He lived only a couple of years. He was extremely friendly and nice tempered.
